FAQs

What is a lace wig?

A lace wig is a wig where each strand of hair is ventilated or knotted onto a lace base thus allowing a much more natural movement than that of a normal wig . The lace base is a cap constructed to the shape of your head by using measurements or making a mold. The lace is matched to the colour of your skin/scalp and is similar to the material tulle. The lace can either be French or Swiss. Swiss lace is slightly finer than French lace, in any case all lace is delicate and should be handles with the utmost care. The lace wig is attached to the entire perimeter of the head using either adhesives or tapes and thus a greater variety of styles can be achieved without revealing any glue, wefts or bulk.

What is the difference between a full lace wig and a front lace wig?

There are so many names for these beautiful pieces. A  front lace wig is a wig with around 2 – 6 inches of lace at the front perimeter and the rest of the wig is constructed on wefts like with a normal wig at the back.  With front lace wigs you have less styling options than with a full lace wig. A full lace wig has lace around the entire perimeter. A lace frontal is a partial piece of lace constructed for the front part of your head only and is great for blending in with your own hair if you have a thinning hairline.

How long should my lace wig stay on for?

This is the most popular question we get asked and I’m afraid the answer is it varies from person to person. There are several factors involved with how long your wig stays on for, it depends on your skin type, the climate you live in, your body temperature, how you maintain and manage your hair, how you apply the wig first off and your lifestyle. The other thing to know is that different adhesives react differently on different people so while one client may get a three week hold with Ultra hold another one may get only a couple of days. Most people get a hold of 1 – 6 weeks with an adhesive. You are advised to shop around and find the most practical and best adhesive for you.

I hate using Ultra hold it is too sticky and the mirror slide takes up way too much time, what are the alternatives?

Yes another common complaint we get is the high maintenance of the Ultra hold adhesive. It certainly is very sticky but remains very popular because it gives one of the strongest and longest lasting holds. Each glue/adhesion method has its pros and cons. Ladies Love Lace offer a wig cleaning service.

What is the best glue to use?

We cannot advise on the best glue to use but the most popular choices are Endura bond, Ultra hold and No tape. Each glue has its pros and cons.

What is the best hair to use?

Choose a hair and density that looks realistic on you. There are so many different types of hair to choose from. We source all our own hair, see our gallery for details. We invite you to visit any of our outlets to come and see and feel our hair and talk to our consultants about choosing the right hair for you.

How long will my lace wig last?

It depends on how well you care and maintain it but normally six to twelve months.

I’m having a nightmare removing the adhesive from the lace!

This is a common problem. You will find many useful videos demonstrating adhesive removal on you tube.

Do you have a store?

Our first stores are due to open in  Old Trafford, Manchester and Chiswick, London in September 2011. We currently have consultants who work for us offering a private and discreet service by appointment only. They also offer a mobile service.

I bought a lace wig on line and the hair is all tangled, what can I do?

Believe it or not many vendors sell hair and are not aware of its true origins relying only on the information their suppliers give them. We test all our hair and frequently receive wigs from clients that they have bought elsewhere asking us to fix, colour or detangle them. When we carry out our strand tests we find more often than not the hair they have received is either mixed or made of high quality synthetic strands either of these will cause tangling. The other thing to know is that all hair tangles anyway if you do not brush or care for your hair. It’s amazing how many people out there think that hair will maintain itself. The best thing to do when your wig is tangled is gently comb it out, wash it carefully using your fingers to comb it out and use a rich shampoo on it. Follow up with an intense conditioner left on for at least half an hour then wash out and allow to air dry. If the problem is severe we offer a detangling treatment for £65

What are the best products to use on my lace wig?

We love Kerastase,Motions, Sillicon Mix, Dark and Lovely, Aveda products. Clients however always tell us they have found products they use which have a gorgeous effect on the hair. We advise not weighing the hair down with too much oil based product. Leave in conditioners are always advisable.  Serum is great for the ends of hair.

I own a salon and would like to supply my clients with your lace wigs, can you help?

As we pride ourselves on offering a bespoke and high quality service we can only offer our products to selected salons and outlets after our training programme. E-mail us at info@lace-wigs.co.uk for more details.

The glue I’m using is causing skin lightening/a rash what do you recommend?

Stop using it right away. Remember skin sheds cells daily which break down into dirt and sweat so it is advisable to remove and reapply your unit often. Practice makes perfect. Use moisturizer on your hair line in between applications. Contact us with the product you are currently using and we can make some recommendations.
